Aikido is both a martial art, and a movement art dedicated to the peaceful resolution of conflict. Through regular practice you’ll learn the footwork and the various strikes and counters, finding ways to blend with and neutralize the oncoming attack. We learn to fall, roll and recover safely and gracefully. Through the practice of aikido, you’ll developed greater levels of fitness, coordination, balance, flexibility and calm under pressure. Monday night’s  class is specifically for beginners. However, you can start by attending any class that works for you and we‘ll slowly and surely teach you what you need to know!

The Founder of Aikido considered Takemusu Aikido to be the highest form of Aikido. Takemusu contains two Japanese characters: Take (Bu) = Martial, and Musu = To be born. These characters combine to refer to martial movement spontaneously created, without active thought, resulting in a pure Aikido technique. Your  training will pass through four major periods of development: basic technique, flexible technique, flowing technique, and, finally, Takemusu Aiki.

This final form of Aikido is attainable by anyone through practice.
